President's Message

Welcome to the South Carolina Activity Professionals Association website.  SCAPA is the only organization in the state that represents Activity Professionals working in all types of settings.  Please take a few minutes to browse the pages of this site to learn about our mission, history, educational opportunities, Board members and how you can become a member. You will also find links to the National Activity Professionals Association (NAAP) , NAAP Credentialing Center (NAAPCC), National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP), Activity Connection, and Activity Director and RE-Creative Resources, Inc., etc.  If there is other information you would like to see added to the website, let us know.

On a personal note, I’ve been a member of SCAPA since 2002 and have served as Coastal District Representative and First Vice-President, Government Relations, and District Coordinator.  I’ve served as Resident Services director of Methodist Manor in Florence, SC, for the past thirteen years and have more than fourteen years of experience in planning activities for senior residents. Prior to this, I worked in the education field for 18 years. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Francis Marion University. I am board certified as an activity professional through NAAPCC and a certified activity director through NCCAP. I have taken a special interest in Dementia and Alzheimer's disease education, treatment and therapy. I am an advisory council member of the Coastal/Pee Dee Region and a planning committee member for the Pee Dee Educational Conference on Alzheimer's Disease.  I have served on the planning committee for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s for over four years.  I am also a certified dementia practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners and a Dementia Dialogues Trainer through the Office of the Study of Aging with the Arnold School of Public Health of the University of South Carolina. Last year, I had the honor of being appointed to the board of the National Association of Activity Professionals’ Credentialing Center and serve as their Director of Compliance and Ethics.

I strongly encourage all Activity Professionals to become active in SCAPA.  SCAPA is only as strong as you are involved!  Whether by serving on a committee, volunteering for open board positions or hosting a district meeting at your facility, YOU make SCAPA what it is!  We are truly blessed to have one of the best activity associations in the country!  Being involved on a national level has helped me see just that.  Your involvement and support helps SCAPA grow.  In growing, we are able to continually improve in offering quality educational and networking opportunities for our members.  And on top of all that, you get to meet some remarkable professionals and make some wonderful friends and connections.  It’s a win-win situation in every aspect!

I am excited and look forward to serving you as SCAPA President.  I am anxious to get to know you all and work with you to continue to keep SCAPA the best it can be!  Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any help to you.
