One of SCAPA's main purposes is to offer continuing education opportunities for Activity Professionals at all levels. SCAPA offers sessions that will be approved by the National Association of Activity Professionals Credentialing Center (NAAPCC) as well as the National Certification Council For Activity Professionals (NCCAP). Sessions topic areas also fall within the NCTRC Job Analysis areas and should be accepted toward CTRS certification. NCCDP also accepts the SCAPA education certificates. This will assure these sessions can be used toward certification or re-certification. These sessions also equip the Activity Professionals with the means to continue providing quality programming for the residents or clients they serve.
SCAPA encourages all members and Activity Professionals to become certified nationally. When you as an Administrator hire a certified Activity Professional, you can be assured they have met stringent educational, experience and continuing education requirements, and should be qualified for the position of Activity Director. If they are certified through NAAPCC or NCCAP, they are given a certification number, certification card and certificate. They should be able to give you a copy of their certificate for their employment record. Unfortunately, there are some people who will say or think they are certified, when in fact, they are not.
Please be aware that when someone takes the NCCAP required activity course (MEPAP), it is only one component of their certification process. The MEPAP course alone does not certify the individual. The course does qualify them according to F TAG 249 of the Federal Regulations, to work as an Activity Director in S.C.
In 2004, as a service to Administrators, SCAPA began offering LTHCA hours to assist those with CRCFA and NHA licenses in completing requirements for continuing education. We offer these hours at our annual conference held in March of each year. This also helps some of our members who are dually certified/licensed. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact any board member.
